MinnState Chancellor Gives Inaugural Address at Hennepin Tech

MinnState Chancellor Scott Olson

Brooklyn Park, October 20, 2023

On October 16, Hennepin Technical College was pleased to host local and state lawmakers, community members, and the campus community for Chancellor Scott Olson’s inaugural State of the System address. We welcomed speakers including Student Senate President, Michael Engstrom, Faculty member, Brad Thorpe, Hennepin Technical College President, Joy Bodin, Chair of the Board of Trustees, Roger Moe, and Governor Tim Walz. The Hennepin Tech community would like to thank the campus at large, especially the Carpentry and Cabinetmaking and Culinary Arts students and faculty, for helping to make the event a success.

In his remarks, Chancellor Olson speaks about the Minnesota State initiatives including the North Star Promise Scholarship program, NexGen, and Equity 2030, and how these topics impact the future of Minnesota’s workforce. "We prepare more than two-thirds of Minnesota’s tradespeople. We prepare 90 percent of Minnesota’s peace officers, and mechanics, and manufacturing employees. We are Minnesota’s workforce. We build that workforce. And Minnesota needs every one of those graduates for Minnesota to be what Minnesota dreams of becoming. Our mission is to take students and their families up, up, up toward that Northern Star."
