Program Description

Unleash your culinary creativity and master the art of baking with Hennepin Tech's Baking and Pastry Entrepreneur program!

Students learn the basics of becoming a pastry chef. Courses include culinary arts skills like sanitation, baking techniques, and nutrition. Students learn to develop attention to detail, planning and organization, creativity, and how to lead and work well with others.

In addition to mastering the art of baking, students in this program also gain valuable knowledge about entrepreneurship. They learn how to develop business plans, manage finances, and market their products effectively. These skills are essential for starting and running their own baking businesses or managing operations in existing establishments.

After graduating, students are ready for careers as professional bakers in bakeries, pastry shops, restaurants, and cafes. Graduates can apply their business know-how to follow their dreams of owning a small business in the culinary industry.

  • Students create innovative flavor profiles and unique designs while baking a variety of pastries, specialty cakes, confections, desserts and artisan breads.
  • Hennepin Tech has two commercial kitchens dedicated to student education and feature state-of-the art equipment.

Options to fit your schedule

  • In just two years, students earn a Baking and Pastry Entrepreneur associate degree which prepares individuals to operate their own culinary business. We are the only college in Minnesota State to offer this associate degree.
  • For students who prefer a fast-track, students may earn a culinary-only certificate in eight months.
