Auto Tech grad enjoys career at Luther Honda
Brooklyn Park, June 5, 2023 – Two weeks prior to graduating from Hennepin Tech’s Automotive Technician program, Reed Greenwood and his classmates were touring an auto dealership.
The tour guide asked, “Who wants a job?” Greenwood raised his hand. After completing the interview process at Luther Hopkins Honda, Greenwood began his career and was recently promoted to Journeyman Technician.
Recently Greenwood returned to campus as a representative of Luther Hopkins Honda. He was recruiting students to work at Luther dealership. We asked him what advice he has for new auto techs.
Hennepin Tech: What did you enjoy most about working at a dealership?
Greenwood: At a dealership, there’s help everywhere. It’s a learning environment. That’s important because cars are always changing. There are always new features.
Hennepin Tech: What is your favorite car?
Greenwood: The one that I own now. It is a 2019 Honda Civic Type R. I have pushed it to 179 mph. Don’t worry, I drove it on a track!
Hennepin Tech: Some auto technicians prefer to learn their skills from people they know or from YouTube. What do you tell people who are reluctant to enroll at Hennepin Tech?
Greenwood: At Hennepin Tech, we learn the complete diagnostic process. The instructors run you through everything – electrical, engines and show you how to be a professional in your career. It is worth it and it pays off in the end.
Hennepin Tech: What was the biggest challenge that you overcame during your time as a student?
Greenwood: I attended during the COVID lockdown. At one point, we were not allowed on campus. It was rough.
Hennepin Tech: What advice would you give to students?
Greenwood: You can’t succeed without failure. I’m 21-years-old. I have had my failures and my comebacks. It allows you to learn and grow. You can reflect on what happened and then figure out a way to better in the future.
