Governor Walz highlights robotics apprenticeship at Hennepin Tech

Brooklyn Park, July 19, 2023 – Hennepin Tech faculty joined Minnesota Governor Tim Walz at an event to highlight career opportunities in manufacturing. Walz visited Buhler, a company in Plymouth that makes equipment for food processing. Robotics faculty member Jeff Thorstad was among the speakers at the event.

In an effort to recruit and train skilled workers, Buhler has an innovative jobs program in partnership with Hennepin Tech. Students receive on-the-job training at Buhler and they attend classes at Hennepin Tech in Automated Robotics Engineering. Tuition is free and students earn a salary. A tour of Buhler was the backdrop for Walz to discuss state funding that provides training for students to launch manufacturing careers.
