Brooklyn Park, September 24, 2024
Hennepin Tech’s own Student Chef, Myra Hullum, earned a bronze medal in the student category at the ACF Daniel Cleary Saint Paul Farmers Market Culinary Competition. This intense, timed event tested Myra’s abilities in setup, meal prep, cleanup, and plating. She expressed her excitement after the event, stating, “The competition was hard! I’m really proud of myself.” Myra credits her mentors, Chef Carlos Reyes and Chef Denis Durnev, for pushing her to take on the challenge.
Chef Denis Durnev, a faculty instructor in the Culinary Arts Program, shared his pride in Myra’s accomplishment. “I’m extremely happy for Myra. She really earned it.” He emphasized how competitions like this prepare students for real-world conditions, adding, “We are preparing students to enter the workforce. Competing in events like this helps them showcase their skills for employers. This is huge for them.”
