Medium Heavy Truck Technology Receives Engine from North Central International
Brooklyn Park, September 19, 2024
Hennepin Tech Medium Heavy Truck Technology program recently received a donation of a Cummins ISB 6.7-liter medium duty truck engine from North Central International at their annual Transportation Open House. The engine was donated for use in their lab on the Brooklyn Park campus.
When asked how the engine would be used in the classroom, program faculty, Brad Kolle, spoke about the need for students to understand modern fuel and emissions standards in medium and heavy trucks. “Fuel systems and emissions have changed over the years,” he said. “This engine has the latest fuel systems.” Kolle continued. “Students need to know how those systems work to meet emissions.” Students will use the donated engine in the classroom to run advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting. Industry donations of this type expose students to the most up-to-date equipment used in business, preparing them for highly skilled, in-demand positions.
Kyle Ries of North Central International reflected on the industry relationship with the Hennepin Tech Medium Heavy Truck Technology program, “We’ve had great luck with students coming from this program.” He attributed the quality employees to the caliber of education provided by the program. “We’ve hired three [students] in the past three years. We’ve had great luck. The students we’ve hired have been above the mark, eager to learn, and prepared to enter the workforce.”
The Cummins ISB 6.7-liter medium duty truck engine is typically found in vehicles like school buses and is traditionally painted bright red.
